After a lot of time on the road in the last month on assignments for other clients it was wonderful to have a shoot in my backyard a couple of weeks ago (end of April). With the support of Miss Wordsmith I helped to provide the visual content for some of ICL Charted Accountants marketing collateral.

Nina Yardley

ICL Practice Manager, Nina Yardley.

I had the pleasure of working with ICL Practice Manager, Nina Yardley, who is organising lots of stuff for the practice and also the update of their website. Nina wanted new images of their staff including some photos of their Directors that were more reflective of their brand and made use of the wonderful Central Otago landscape. With offices in Ranfurly and Alexandra they have a range of clients and a number of those with businesses in the primary sector.

So ideally, the background would help better connect their staff with their clients.  We agreed an outdoor location based at the Shaky Bridge. It was practical in that it was less than 5 minutes drive from the office but also slightly challenging too in that it is a public walkway. Prior to the shoot I did a recce to work out some location options, these were fine-tuned with Nina as we revisited the Bridge and took some test shots. Using the spots we chose meant that if I were to use an off camera flash it wouldn’t be particularly practical, as setting it up would have got in the way of other users. So I ended up using an on camera flash for a couple of shots and then Nina helped with holding up a large reflector. Thanks Nina! The lighting on the morning was overcast but even so the reflector helped to reduce shadowing. Here are a few images from our morning shoot!

Georgie McClean & Glen Chisolm

New ICL Directors Georgie McClean & Glen Chisolm

ICL also needed an image of the new Directors Georgie McClean & Glen Chisolm. I had photographed both of them numerous times before but not in a work setting! Georgie in action playing hockey and Glen running in some of the events where I’ve been the official photographer such as the Cromwell Half Marathon.

Courtney Waller

At this location we could get some iconic aspects of Central Otago in the image – the schist pillars of the Shaky Bridge, the schist hills in the background as well as the autumn colours. If needed the images could be cropped later to suit.

Jerry Day

This photo of Jerry shows a tighter crop (and the shot of Nina’s at the top). It could be cropped portrait too which would crop out the trees and hills in the background.

As I mentioned one of the challenges at the Shaky Bridge is that it is a public walkway, so I stopped shooting every time someone wanted access. This cyclist had us in fits as he zoomed onto the bridge only to realise once he half way across that, he was going in the wrong direction. So we waited patiently as he reversed!

At the end of the session, we had a quick fun shot.  Who said Accountants were boring?  Not this lot!
